Tom Wilson returns to the Tigers!

He’s back! Tom Wilson has made a welcomed return to the basketball court after spending the last 4yrs on Collingwood Magpies AFL list. Prior to his AFL career Tom was a highly credentialed Basketball player who holds both local and international experience. A Melbourne Tigers Junior, Tom had spent time at the Centre of Excellence (COE), in 2014 was part of the Silver Medal winning U17 National Team at the World Championship and competed at the FIBA Oceania U18 Championship and FIBA U19 World Championship. In the 2018-19 NBL Season Tom played with the Sydney Kings that led to his debut for the Australian Boomers in 2019. In 2018 whilst playing with the Melbourne Tigers in the SEABL (now NBL1) competition Tom was named the League MVP along with All-SEABL First Team and Australian Youth Player of the Year.

A 6’4” Point Guard, Tom possesses a high-level Basketball IQ who has a unique ability to create both for himself and others on the court. A highly efficient scorer both from inside the paint and deep from the perimeter makes for a dangerous combination for any player to defend. Coupled with his natural leadership and experience at the highest levels of professional sports (NBL & AFL) will be invaluable for a young Tigers team.

The Club and Coaching Staff are delighted to see Tom wearing the Tigers colours again.

“Tommy has been fantastic right from the outset of his return to the basketball court, we’ve been amazed at his seamless transition back to Basketball after spending the last four years in the AFL ranks. His rhythm, court vision and touch, it’s like he’d never left the game. Not only does Tommy bring tremendous professional experience but his unique skillset is something that we are extremely excited about and know that he’s going to have a huge impact upon the League” – Jay Lomer A/Coach

Tom on his return to the Tigers for 2024: “I’m super excited to be coming back to the Melbourne Tigers. There’s a lot of people at this club who have had a big influence on not just my basketball journey but also my life. I’m really looking forward to seeing those familiar faces again. The Tigers have always felt like home and there was no other way I was going to come back to basketball without coming home. This club is a special place!”

Tom is the type of player that takes a team to the next level and together with Jack Purchase the Tigers have brought back two League MVPs. We welcome Tom back to Basketball, but more importantly we welcome him back home to the Melbourne Tigers!
