Remo Simankevicius returns to the Tigers!

Making his welcome return to the Tigers is Remo Simankevicius who, coming into his 2nd Season with Melbourne, is looking to continue to bring that spark off the bench and have that high level impact at both ends of the Court.  In 2023 having averaged 6.7ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg he carved out a strong defensive role that expanded to the offensive end more and more as the Season progressed as Remo became more comfortable with his new team and the Tigers structures.

At 6’6” Remo can defend multiple positions on the perimeter, his quick lateral speed not only allows him to apply strong ball pressure but also ‘help and recover’ when off the ball.  The Tigers called upon Remo often to be that primary wing defender with great results.  Remo’s ability to also read the ball on offence enabled him to fill that ‘slasher’ role off the ball with great effect which resulted in him having some big scoring games at a high efficiency last season.

The Coaching Staff are excited to see his return for 2024:

“It’s fantastic to see Remo recommit with the Tigers for the upcoming season.  In his first year with us last season Remo quickly established himself as a key contributor to our growing success.  His competitiveness and relentless defensive effort is the type of stuff that all coaches love and want on their team and he’s shown too his ability to score and has great instinct with his off ball movement.  I’ve seen firsthand the work Remo has been putting in through the off season and his 3pt shooting has gone to another level, I truly believe he can establish that ‘3 and D’ type role for us which is so vital in this modern era of basketball” – Jay Lomer A/Coach

With Remo another key piece has been added to the Melbourne Tigers NBL1 program which is quietly putting together one of its strongest and deepest rosters in recent years.
