Melbourne Tigers sign rising star Ella Tofaeono!

The Melbourne Tigers are excited to announce the signing of Ella Tofaeono for the upcoming 2025 NBL1 South season. With a strong basketball resume which includes WNBL and an international debut for the New Zealand Tall Ferns this year, Tofaeono brings a wealth of experience to the Tigers, having previously played in the NBL1 South in 2023 and, most recently, delivering standout performances in the NBL1 North, where she averaged an impressive 16 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Tofaeono’s journey has included a successful collegiate career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where her competitive drive and commitment to excellence helped her develop into a dominant force. Her game continued to grow in the WNBL, where she is currently playing for the Canberra Capitals following a stint with Townsville Fire. Known for her strength, and tenacity in the paint, Tofaeono’s presence on both ends of the floor is expected to make an immediate impact for the Tigers.

“We’re thrilled to have Ella join the Melbourne Tigers,” said Head Coach Kaleb Sclater. “I met Ella in 2023 and “We identified her early as a target recruit so when she agreed it was great for our club. Her experience in NBL1 South, combined with her proven performance in the North last season, makes her an incredibly valuable addition to our team. Ella’s ability to rebound, defend, and score inside will bring us added strength and versatility. I can tell already Ella has made great strides in her game playing for Shannon in Townsville last season and Paul in Canberra this season and I’m excited to see her flourish with us in 2025”

Ella Tofaeono is equally excited to return to the NBL1 South and be part of Melbourne’s rich basketball tradition. “I am very excited to be heading down to the Melbourne Tigers to play with an elite group, and back in NBL1 South”. she said. “I have known Kaleb for a little bit now, and am excited to play and learn from him in the off season, and play alongside a youthful yet enthusiastic bunch of women. Not to mention I’m looking forward to Sara Blicavs return from injury and having the opportunity to share the court with her, will be fun”.

The Melbourne Tigers look forward to seeing the impact Tofaeono will have on their 2025 campaign, as they aim to build on past successes and compete for a championship.
