The Melbourne Tigers are proud to announce the signing of Shuyu Yang for the 2026 NBL1 South season, marking one of the most exciting international additions in recent club history.
A rising star of the Chinese Women’s National Team, Yang arrives in Melbourne with an already decorated résumé. The 24-year-old guard played a key role in China’s bronze medal finish at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 3×3 basketball and was part of the team that claimed gold at the 2023 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, and most recently recognised in the All-Star-Five at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament this year.
Yang has built her professional career in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) with the Guangdong Vermilion Birds, where she has developed into a consistent and dynamic performer. Most recently, she starred in leading her side to the 2025 FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia title, earning Most Valuable Player honours in the final.
Head Coach Kaleb Sclater shared his excitement, highlighting Yang’s fit within the Tigers system.

Yang’s signing further strengthens the Tigers’ roster for the 2026 NBL1 South season, as the club continues its commitment to developing a high-performance program and making a push for finals.
