The Melbourne Tigers are thrilled to announce the return of Australian Opal Zitina Aokuso for the upcoming NBL1 South season, re-joining the club after previously suiting up in 2021.
Standing at 6’4, Aokuso brings a powerful combination of size, strength, and skill that makes her one of the most dominant interior players in Australian basketball.
Zitina joins the Tigers following a standout season in NBL1 West with the Willetton Tigers, where she produced monster numbers, averaging 23.91 points, 13 rebounds, and 7.55 assists, earning selection to the Women’s All NBL1 West First Team. Her ability to score, facilitate, and control the paint sets her apart as a truly complete center.
Currently competing in the WNBL with the University of Canberra Capitals, Zitina is enjoying another strong campaign, averaging 13.24 points, 7.35 rebounds, and 3.53 assists, and is a finalist for the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
At the international level, Zitina made her Australian Opals debut in 2021, winning a bronze medal at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Jordan, before returning to the squad last year and helping the Opals secure the gold medal.
We’re excited to welcome Zitina back to the Tigers and can’t wait to see her make a massive impact in the upcoming season.
