Abbey Sutherland returns to the Tigers for 2025!

The Melbourne Tigers are delighted to announce that 6’3” Centre Abbey Sutherland has re-signed with the club for the 2025 NBL1 South season. Known for her defensive grit and team-first mentality, Sutherland returns for her second season with the Tigers, solidifying the team’s frontcourt and bringing invaluable experience and intensity to the roster.

In her debut season with the Tigers, Sutherland made an immediate impact, shouldering the load of defending against some of the league’s most physical post players. Her strength and size were instrumental in controlling the paint and protecting the Tigers’ rim. Now entering her second season, Sutherland is poised to build on her impressive defensive performance, further establishing herself as a force in the league.

Beyond her defensive prowess, Sutherland’s offensive versatility makes her a key piece in the Tigers’ lineup. With a reliable mid-range jump shot, she has the ability to stretch the floor, pulling defenders out of the paint and creating opportunities for her teammates. Her shot-making from the high post opens up space in the offense, giving the Tigers an edge in their offensive sets.

Head Coach Kaleb Sclater expressed his excitement about Sutherland’s return: “Abbey is an outstanding teammate who always puts the team first. She’s someone the girls love to play with because she brings so much positive energy to the group. Abbey’s ability to pass out of the post and stretch the floor with her mid-range shooting makes her valuable to our team, and we’re thrilled to have her back.”

Sutherland also shared her enthusiasm for another season with the Tigers, saying, “I am so excited to be back for year two at the tigers and can’t wait to see what we can do this year, I Loved the family feel of the club which made it an easy choice for me to sign on again. I loved the girls last year and can’t wait to get started with the returning and new group! Go tiges!”

The Tigers are excited to welcome Sutherland back as they prepare for the 2025 season, aiming to compete at the highest level with her talent, leadership, and selfless approach leading the way.
