Referee Pathways
Trainee:
Kickstart your officiating journey at the age of 14 by enrolling in our beginner schools. The Green Shirt Program, comprising both theoretical sessions and hands-on court training under the guidance of seasoned referees, lays the groundwork for officiating with essential skills.
C Grade:
Upon completing the trainee course successfully and earning the endorsement of MCBA Referee Supervisors, you attain the ‘C’ Grade. As a ‘C’ Grade referee, you’ll be officiating in our local domestic competitions.
B Grade:
Advancing to ‘B’ Grade expands your horizons to officiate at higher-tier basketball matches. Those demonstrating promise may be nominated for an ‘A’ Grade program within the next couple of years.
A Grade:
Under the guidance of a senior referee, the ‘A’ Grade program hones referee skills in Mechanics, Presentation, Game Calling, Communication, and Technical Control. Achieving ‘A’ Grade status is a prestigious accomplishment within the local association.
For those committed to excellence, the Elite Leagues present opportunities on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, involving statewide travel. Elite referees can pursue various state, national, and international avenues with dedication and talent, paving the way for a fulfilling journey in elite officiating.
