Chantel Horvat signs with the Tigers!

The Melbourne Tigers are thrilled to announce the signing of Euro League star Chantel Horvat for the 2024 NBL1 South season.

Chantel comes to the Tigers with an impressive resume, the 6’2 wing spent time at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, before a 5-year collegiate career at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). After the commencement of her time at UCLA Chantel spent time with the LA Sparks in the WNBA before heading to Europe to play in Poland, Turkey and is currently playing for Spanish powerhouse Avenida. Chantel made her Australian Opals debut in 2023 helping Australia win a bronze medal in the Asia Cup. Chantel is a welcomed addition to the Tigers squad to help gain a playoff berth.

Coach Kaleb Sclater said, “It’s really exciting for us that Chantel is on board this season, to bring in somebody of WNBA, Euro League and Opal experience is huge. Chantel is an incredible athlete who at 6’2 can play multiple spots in our style of play. I was lucky enough to do some work with Chantel before she took off to Europe last year and what stuck out to me was how hard she worked and what a great person she is. Chantel will be a handful for opposition teams as she is extremely aggressive, can score in a range of areas and can defend 1-5, so it’s great to have her”.

Chantel said “I’m super excited to be playing for the Tigers this upcoming season. I can’t wait to get back to Australia and get to work with the team. I have played with a few of the girls before with different junior and senior teams and it will be a really fun team to be a part of”.

Chantel will join the rest of her Tigers’ teammates at the end of her Euro League season.
