The Rookie Me Melbourne Tigers are excited to announce the signing of one of Australian basketball’s brightest young stars, Isobel Borlase, for the 2025 NBL1 South season. At just 20 years old, Borlase has already accomplished an incredible amount in her basketball career, and her addition to the Tigers promises to bring an exciting new energy to the team.
Borlase’s rise to prominence began with her exceptional performances in the 2022/23 WNBL season, where she was named the Betty Watson “Breakout Player of the Year” and earned the Sixth Woman of the Year award with the Adelaide Lightning. These accolades solidified her as one of the league’s most dynamic and impactful players.
Her success continued in the 2023/24 WNBL season, where she earned a spot on the prestigious All-WNBL First Team, further demonstrating her status as one of the best players in the WNBL.
In 2024, Borlase’s career took an even bigger leap. She was selected 20th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, a major milestone that highlighted her growing reputation on the global stage. Later that year, she was a key contributor to the Australian Opals’ success at the Paris Olympics, helping the team secure a historic bronze medal.
Now, the Melbourne Tigers are thrilled to welcome Borlase to their roster for the 2025 NBL1 South season. Known for her versatility, scoring power and athleticism, Borlase is poised to make an immediate impact and bring her winning mentality to the Tigers.
“I’m super excited to be signing with the Melbourne Tigers for this upcoming NBL1 season,” said Borlase. “I can’t wait to improve my game under Kaleb and the rest of the coaching staff at Melbourne. I’m really looking forward to getting to practice and meeting and playing with all the girls. I’m excited to get on court and help the team go deep into the finals”.
Melbourne Tigers Head Coach, Kaleb Sclater, expressed his enthusiasm about adding Borlase to the team. “Bringing Izzy into the group is huge for our program, and club. Being a young Opal’s star and Olympian wanting to come to our program to assist in her development is a big tick for what we are trying to build as a club. I’ve been lucky to do a little bit of work with Izzy in the past, not only is she a great player but a fantastic young lady who fits our culture. Her ability to score in different situations and play physical defensively really makes our team better. She fits into the style and system we are trying to play, and I can’t wait to see her pull on a Tigers jersey.”
With her already impressive list of achievements, Isobel Borlase is set to be one of the future faces of Australian basketball, and fans can look forward to watching her rise even further with the Melbourne Tigers in the 2025 NBL1 South season.
