Sara Blicavs returns to basketball joining the Melbourne Tigers!

The Melbourne Tigers are thrilled to announce the re-signing of Australian basketball star, Sara Blicavs, for the upcoming NBL1 Women’s season. A proven leader and fierce competitor, Blicavs brings an incredible wealth of experience to the Tigers, both on and off the court, as an Olympian and World Cup Bronze Medallist with the Australian Opals.

Blicavs, renowned for her versatility, defensive prowess, and shooting ability, returns to the Tigers following a remarkable rehabilitation from spinal fusion surgery. After enduring a challenging period of recovery, her determination and resilience have shone through. Her successful return to the court is a testament to her hard work and commitment to overcoming obstacles.

“I haven’t been this motivated and this excited about basketball for a long time. Since my spinal fusion, I feel fitter, stronger and more athletic than I have ever been. A 31 year old feeling 23 again is an amazing feeling”. said Blicavs. “To be back with the Tigers where I spent some of my junior career brings back fond memories of when I was a kid just having fun playing hard. They have been nothing but a super supportive organisation who has only had faith in me. It’s a super enjoyable and professional environment and gives me nothing but great drive to get them wins”.

“Kaleb has been awesome in my rehabilitation and is making me a better player day by day. I’m pumped to see where he can take the group and I know I’ll see him coaching in the green and gold one day”.

Having represented Australia at the Tokyo Olympics and contributing to the Opals’ success with a bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup, Blicavs’ leadership and international experience will be invaluable to the Tigers. Her return to the NBL1 will undoubtedly boost the team’s championship aspirations as she brings not only skill but also the mental toughness gained from her recovery journey.

Melbourne Tigers’ Head Coach Kaleb Sclater expressed his excitement at Blicavs’ return, stating, “Sara is a game changer. Her impact goes beyond just stats; her presence raises the level of everyone around her, she’s just not a phenomenal player but also a phenomenal person. We are beyond excited to help her with her comeback to journey and have her back on the court, fully fit and ready to lead us into what promises to be an exciting season.”

With her unique blend of experience, resilience, and talent, Sara Blicavs is poised to make a significant impact in her comeback season. The Tigers and their fans are looking forward to seeing her take the court once again and lead the charge toward a successful 2025 campaign.
